The Pontiac Spotlight:
Grand Prix Daytona 500

The Pontiac Spotlight will feature a different Pontiac each month. If you have a Pontiac that you would like featured here please email me your details and a few pictures to share.

For June a 2000 Grand Prix Daytona 500 Edition

Introduced in 1998 the Daytona 500 Grand Prix made an re-appearance again in 2000. This time it carried the NASCAR theme to the next step. Pontiac only produced 2000 Daytonas for the 2000 model year. While it did share its 3.8L 240hp Supercharged engine with the GTP, Pontiac added a host of special features for the Daytona 500 such as:

Galaxy Silver paint
Unique rear spoiler
Special chrome Exhaust tips
Chrome 3-spoke 16" wheels
Hood heat extractors
NASCAR-style roof fences
Two-tone Leather seats and door trim
Interior door emblems
Daytona 500 exterior badging

This featured 2000 Daytona 500 pace car is owned by John Price. John has added the full pace car graphics package to this already sharp package. This GP isn't all show either, With computer and exhaust modifications, low 14 sec quarter time are easily recorded. John is a member of the Daytona Pace Car Club of America and as such he has driven his GP on the high banks of the Michigan International Speedway for the pre-race pace laps before the last two Pepsi 400's. Since Pontiac only made 2000, John only drives the car in the summers and is away safely for the nasty Michigan winters. Too bad we all didn't do that with those muscle cars of the 60's...
