The Pontiac Spotlight:
1977 Trans Am SE
The Pontiac Spotlight will feature a different Pontiac each month. If you have a Pontiac that you would like featured here please email me your details and a few pictures to share.
For September a 1977 Trans Am SE.
Building on the success of the black and gold Limited Edition Trans Am of 1976, Pontiac continued with the same formula and offered the Special Edition package again in 1977. It came in two different combinations, one without the T-top roof (Y81) and the other with the T-top roof (Y82). The majority of these came with the T-top roof which were shipped to Hurst for the installation. Adding to the popularity of the car was its lead role in, what is arguably one of the best "car" movies of all time, "Smokey and the Bandit". While the Trans Am SE is not a rare car, Pontiac sold over 15,000 Special Edition Trans Ams in 1977, it is a very desirable and collected car today.
The Special Edition package contained many unique features such as:
Black Paint with Gold pin-stripes
Back and Gold "screaming chicken" hood decal
Gold accented Snowflake cast aluminum wheels
Blacked-out window trim
Gold grille
Gold swirl dash panel
Gold spooked steering wheel
This featured 1977 Trans Am SE is owned by Darrell Reddix. He bought this, numbers matching, one owner "Bandit" on Ebay earlier this year. It came with all of the original documentation such as the original sale receipt and loan papers. The original owner had restored it in 1993, needed only a little TLC to bring this SE back to its former glory. The car was ordered with T-Top roof, A/C, power windows, cruise, tilt wheel, AM/FM Stereo, and of course the Y82 Special Edition package. Darrell has since added new hood bird, decals, and gold pin-striping that really give is a whole new look.
