The Pontiac Spotlight:
FIRE INJUN'

The Pontiac Spotlight will feature a different Pontiac each month. If you have a Pontiac that you would like featured here please email me your details and a few pictures to share.

For December 1980 Trans Am

This 1980 ex-Pro Stock drag car is owned by Brad Thompson. The car is a all tube chassis, 4 link, 9" 4:10, it weights out at 2450 w/ driver. Fire Injun is an appropriate name for a Fireman's drag car. Brad runs with Beat the Heat inc. Which is a group of Police and Fireman that drag race. They travel around educating kids on the proper place to race. They set up high school drags and displays.

There is a Jet Sonic light bar and strobe kit with a lights in all four corners. While the lights are for show, there was a 950hp 474 Pontiac with a 871 blower and 12 to 1 compression for the go. This would push the T/A easily in to the high 7's. However, the 474 is now history as Brad puts it: " At the Night of Fire event I ran exhibition run against a Pro Mod Nova Police Car out of Waco Tx. The motor let a rod go at the top end and we looked like a roman candle at 168 mph." I'm sure that there were more that a few Firemen around to help put that blaze out. Today, there is a "freshened up" 462 Injected Pontiac that still runs 8's.
